Pathankot martyr honoured, army soldiers on high alert

On 2 January 2016, a heavily armed Islamic terrorist group attacked Pathankot Air Force Station part of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force. The attackers, who were wearing Indian  Army fatigues,were suspected to belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed, an Islamist militant group designated a terrorist organisation by India, the US, the UK and the UN.  Four terrorists have been killed and three defence personnel have been martyred in the attack on the Indian Air Force Base in Pathankot in Punjab where an operation by Security Forces has been underway for over seven hours.



 the terrorists had infiltrated into India three days ago from Bahawalpur in Pakistan. The heavy gunbattle between terrorists and the security forces nearthe Air Base slowed down and combing operations began to smoke out the hiding terrorists.
Earlier today, around five militants in Army fatigue opened fire near the Air Force station here early in the morning today and a massive gunbattle occurred between the security forces and the attackers.
Security forces had been on high alert since yesterday following the attack on a senior police officer, due to which the attack today morning near the Air Force base was contained in the non-operational area of the base ensuring the safety of the civilians and protecting the Air Force equipments.
Based on the developments of yesterday the Army had sounded an alert accordingly and placed 2 Army Columns, a Special Forces team in the Air Force Station prior to the attack today. A National Security Guard team has also teamed up with them to foil the terrorist plans.

The body of Lieutenant Colonel E K Niranjan, a bomb expert with the National Security Guard who was killed while defusing a grenade at the scene of the terror attack at Pathankot IAF base, was brought to Bengaluru today.
Meanwhile, security forces killed one more terrorist during the combing operation at the Pathankot air base on Monday afternoon, taking the total number of ultras killed so far to five.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh said earlier that the nation was proud of them for the success in the ongoing operation.

He added that India would not show mercy to anyone who threatens the safety of the nation.
